SADC ‘concerned about’ Zim meltdown

GABORONE - The Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community, Dr Tomaz Salomao, has expressed concern over the deteriorating economic and political crisis in Zimbabwe.
Addressing journalists in Botswana on his diplomatic visit, Dr Salomao said the situation in Zimbabwe caused

suffering and it is impossible for the government to think it can solve each crisis separately.
An SADC summit is scheduled for Zambia in mid August. The situation in Zimbabwe is expected to top the agenda.
He expressed concerns that Zimbabweans who migrate to other countries do not respect the policies of governments that host them.
He expressed his heartfelt concerns over the political and economic crisis in Zimbabwe but could not reveal the contents of the SADC secretariat report of how to tackle the problems bedevilling Zimbabwe, with which he was tasked at the previous SADC meeting held in Tanzania.
Salomao challenged Zimbabwe government to care about the welfare of its people, saying the daily mass exodus of people spoke volumes on the situation in the country. He said the crisis in Zimbabwe has also an adverse effect in countries that host Zimbabweans, as it leads to shrinkage of jobs and resources for the citizens of those countries. – Silas Nkala
