Zimbabwean people which is now spilling over into the regional countries.
Indeed the economic problems in Zimbabwe are entirely a responsibility of the
ZANU PF government and can not be allocated elsewhere.
“The economic mismanagement can be seen in all sectors of life which
has led to massive food shortages collapse of the health system and a huge
burden that has been placed on the vulnerable groups into which over 90% of
the population belongs to. It is therefore important that SADC looks at the
plight of the people of Zimbabwe and the impact the economy is having
on regional integration that this crisis be resolved and be resolved
quickly.
It our belief that SADC the capacity to help the people of Zimbabwe
resolve this crisis before there is total collapse of Zimbabwe which can have
even more lasting damage to SADC.
“The elections in March 2008 can not happen in an environment of
intimidation. The MDC eagerly awaits to participate in elections that
are held under free and fair electoral conditions. We therefore demand a
level political field. We demand that state sanctioned violence against the
people of Zimbabwe must stop.
“We demand the repeal of repressive and draconian legislation such as
the Public Order and Securities Act (POSA) and the AIPPA. We demand that
the elections be supervised by SADC and or the African Union. Election
observers from SADC and or the African Union and other parts of the world must be
in Zimbabwe and on the ground at least four months before the election.
Anything to that falls short of these demands for a free and fair
election will be a kiss of death for the country,” said the MDC statement.
