Immigrant raid planned

GABORONE - Botswana's armed forces will on 1 October conduct a raid on illegal immigrants, a move that is likely to affect Zimbabweans living there.
Botswana police sources said the government last week held a meeting to discuss a course of action on the increasing number of illegal immig

rants flooding into Botswana and agreed that a raid – by police officers, army personnel, immigration officers, and the police special constabulary – should be conducted.
“The raids will start on October 1 and anyone without papers, no matter from which country, will be nabbed for deportation. This is not a raid targeting Zimbabweans only, but every foreigner will be caught in the net, although we know that the impact will be high on the Zimbabweans, considering the ever-increasing number of Zimbabweans who enter Botswana without proper papers,” said the police source.
He said the raids would be conducted door-to-door and office-to-office across the country. – Silas Nkala
