Mugabe at UN

HARARE
President Robert Mugabe is in New York this week for the 62nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He held discussions with secretary general Ban Ki-Moon on the sidelines of the two-week gathering.
Vice president Joice Mujuru is the acting president in his absence. His depa

rture came amid controversy over his attendance at a EU-African summit later this year, with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown vowing to boycott the meeting if Mugabe is there. Brown said Mugabe’s attendance would draw attention away from the main issues at the summit. He also urged the EU to impose further measures including targeting families of Zimbabwe’s ruling elite with additional sanctions.
UN meetings are exempt from the US and EU travel ban on Mugabe and his cronies and Mugabe never fails to seize the opportunity to travel to New York for the annual opening sessions. – CAJ News
