red windows and asbestos sheets to Mr Shumba’s house. No one in the house was injured.
The attackers took advantage of the darkness caused by the current incessant load shading and pounced on Mr Shumba’s house before melting into the thick of darkness.
The matter has been reported to Makoni police station. Although there are no leads yet regarding the culprits who stoned the house, it is suspected that the attack is politically motivated as some of the youths were heard chanting songs praising the leadership of the other MDC formation.
We call on the police to deal decisively with intolerant and violent characters that are bent on suppressing divergent views through the use of force and intimidation. Every Zimbabwean is entitled to both freedom of choice and expression and as the nation prepares for the 2008 general election, the temptation by some people to impose their will on others through the use of force and coercion becomes great and the country’s law enforcement agencies such as the police force should be on guard to deal with such people.
