Second wife for Chinamasa

HARARE - Zimbabwe Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa is enmeshed in controversy after he married a second wife in disregard of the country’s marriage laws.
Chinamasa, who has crafted draconian security and press laws that have shrunk democratic space in Zimbabwe, last July married 27-year o

ld nurse, Chiedza Faith Velemu under customary law although he was already married to his first wife, Monica, under the civil law Marriage Act. The Act prohibits polygamy.

According to sources close to family, Monica (58) has threatened to take the matter to the courts to enforce her rights or to President Robert Mugabe for mediation. Contacted for comment, Monica said: “Domestic matters have nothing to do with the press.” Attempts to reach Chinamasa for comment were fruitless, while Chiedza was also unavailable. “Chinamasa bought a farm in Headlands for Monica and Chiedza says she also wants a farm. He is in a catch 22 situation both legally and in his marital affairs,” said a source. – ZimOnline
