ustine Chihuri’s son Sylvester, Reserve Bank Governor Gideon Gono’s twin daughters, Pride and Praise and son Peter were among those deported.
Rural Affairs and Housing Minister Emerson Mnangagwa, Economic Planning Minister Sylvester Nguni, Provincial Governor David Karimanzira, Local Government Minister Ignatius Chombo and Science and Technology Minister Olivia Muchena all had their kids studying at various institutions in Australia deported.
“We all know that the ruling Zanu (PF) has been siphoning the country’s resources and sending their children to acquire better education abroad whilst children of the poor class in the country failed to pay tuition for tertiary education,” say Zimbabweans in the diaspora.
Secretary General of the Revolutionary Youth Movement, John Chikwari, said by deporting the children of the ruling elite it was a clear message to those who support the regime and all countries supporting Mugabe’s dictatorship that it was no longer tolerable.
“Regimes like the one of Mugabe understand the language which the Australians have used best. Zimbabweans outside the country should intensify demonstrations so that all children of the regime are send back home to be educated under the same system which all Zimbabweans are getting and also run by their parents,” said Chikwari.
Zimbabweans in South Africa accuse the Mugabe regime of looting the country’s resources to further their selfish gains.
The Revolutionary Youth Movement last month demonstrated at a South African university, Witwatersrand calling for an immediate expulsion of Zimbabwe’s ruling elite children as they were enjoying good education when the rest of the country had been reduced to extreme poverty.
Human rights defender Tapera Kapuya, commenting on the recent deportations said whoever had lobbied for the deportations had proved to be a true patriotic as the deportations had once again proved that Zimbabwe was a country in political turmoil.
“I hope that all European countries, the US and South Africa follow what has been done by the Australians and show solidarity with the suffering Zimbabweans as the crisis in the country gone out of hand,” said Kapuya who is also National Constitutional Assembly coordinator for the South African office.
The deportation of Zanu (PF) children, whose parents claim they have nothing to do with the west, comes a few days after investigations by the Zimbabwe Journalists. Com established that for students at University of KwaZulu Natal alone the government was spending about R10 million a year on 30 students.
Movement for Democratic Change’s international political liaison officer Nqobizitha Mlilo said the party would not tire in exposing the brutality, legalised thievery and hypocrisy practised by Mugabe and his cabinet.
“As the MDC we still remain committed to the cause of a liberated Zimbabwe and efforts like these ones from concerned Zimbabweans need to be applauded though it is not necessarily an MDC initiative.
“We urge all Zimbabweans to participate in exposing ruthlessness practised by Mugabe and cronies by both sending letters and petitions to the universities or demonstrations and we believe that we can attain our independence through everyone’s participation,” said Mlilo.
