There have been widespread reports of chiefs being used to force villagers to support the ruling party by threatening them with violence or denying them food aid.
MDC spokesman Nelson Chamisa condemned the use of traditional leaders and the recurring incidents of violence perpetrated by the ruling party, saying such things flew in the face of efforts to find a political solution through dialogue. – Itai Dzamara
