Mujuru reveals hungry people hunting mice

MUTARE - Acting President Joice Mujuru last week admitted that hard-up Zimbabweans were resorting to eating mice for survival.
This was revealed when she pleaded with villagers resettled in plantation areas of the Eastern Highlands, to stop setting up veld fires in their pursuit of mice. The f

ires have destroyed timber worth billions of dollars.
Mujuru was in the Eastern border area for the official opening of the Manicaland Agricultural show.
“I am informed some people are setting up fires in timber plantations in their pursuit to hunt mice. Is that the only delicacy we have… please let us have other delicacies and not these mice,” Mujuru said. She, however, did not state what alternatives people could opt for.
She said 1,312 hectares of timber had been destroyed to date in veld fires in plantation areas of Chimanimani and Nyanga. The areas are key producing areas of export timber.
