r commemorations and at the same time joining the rest of the World
The PTUZ was formed in 5 october 2002 by its founders, Raymond Majongwe and Innocent Sibanda.
This commemoration comes in the wake of teachers reeling under poverty, earning paltry salaries below the poverty datum-line, which has forced many of them to sell sweets, bananas, and so on inorder to supplement their meagre salaries. Addressing the delegates, Mr Majongwe said ” teachers have become a laughing stock and valueless in the community, and they should fight for the restoration of their once noble profession and there is no reason to apologize for that.” After the industrial action they have been promised a paltry $14million up from 2,5million and Mr Majongwe indicated that the government had earlier proposed 7,9million before strike took place.
This year’s theme: was the collapsing of education and the exodus of teachers.
Their banner reads:Celebrating 10 years workers Unity. teachers are workers too.
” We call for a militant, vibrant and revolutionary leadership. Long live teaching, long live”.
