HARARE – Trainees at the new Robert Mugabe School of Intelligence will be taught how to torture, intelligence sources claimed this week.
The launch of the school, named after the President and situated in Mazowe Valley, came as Home Affairs Minister Kembo Mohadi deplored the torture of opposition prisoners.
Intelligence sources said graduates from the school would be the shock troops of political repression, propping up Mugabe’s repressive regime.
Mugabe told the gathering that the “unjustified demonisation” of Zimbabwe made the role of intelligence officers very important
“Zimbabwe is at war with forces of imperialism,” Mugabe said. “We want operatives who can measure up to the challenge.”
Although Bonyongwe claimed the school would be used to offer subjects in diplomacy, intelligence and war, sources said the school would actually offer instructions on torture, beatings and assassination.
CIO boss Happton Bonyongwe was not immediately available for comment, but told officials gathered at the site for the launch that the Robert Mugabe School of Intelligence would train military, police and intelligence officers to fight “neo-colonial imperialism”. – Bayethe Zitha
