About 300 NCA members had gathered in the CBD waving placards and banners denouncing the ruling Zanu PF and the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) for passing the Bill.
As they approached the Africa Unity Square from Fourth Street Bus terminus, about 10 armed riot police rounded up the NCA members and beat them up inorder to disperse them.
Lovemore Madhuku, the NCA chairperson who was about to join the marchers when the police descended upon them condemned the police ‘brutality.’
“It shows that they act on instructions and they do not reason,” said Madhuku. :This kind of brutality is not acceptable in a country that claims to be a democracy. We will see the intensity of the injured with a view to sue the police.
Madhuku, however, admitted that his organisation had not sought permission to hold the One of the injured Teera Musiya sustained a deep cut on the head and blood was gushing out as he was being ferried into the NCA truck.
