Magistrates strike cripples judiciary

PLUMTREE - The trial of journalist Bright Chibvuri - accused of working without accreditation for the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) newspaper, The Worker - has been postponed indefinitely because of the ongoing strike by magistrates and prosecutors.

The wheels of justice have virtually ground to a halt following a crippling industrial action by the law officers that started on November 5 over poor remuneration.

Magistrates in this sleepy border town have also joined the strike action, that has seen Chibvuri joining thousands of Zimbabweans that have been denied justice by the collective job action, which government seem reluctant to address. – Chief reporter
