Makone urges women to action

MUTARE - The newly elected chairperson of the MDC's women's assembly, Theresa Makone, has called on women to have unity of purpose.

“Zanu (PF) cannot be removed from power by simply holding rallies and denouncing it. We have to hold door-to-door campaigns, register to vote and go to vote on election day,” said Makone.
She called on women to shun infighting for positions within the party and devote their energies to campaigning.
“We should not rest until the day when Tsvangirai moves into State House. The issue is not about individuals, but it is about our party getting into power and forming a government,” she said.
Makone, addressing hundreds of women at the party’s provincial headquarters here, said some people within the party were spending sleepless nights trying to destabilize it, which she said would fail.
Mutare North legislator Giles Mutsekwa, who is responsible for security claimed Zanu (PF) had now resorted to the tactic of infiltrating the party in an effort to destroy it ahead of next year’s election, an allegation the ruling party has always denied.
“We are aware of these tactics and must beware, as some of us here may be used against the party,” Mutsekwa said. – Own correspondent
