Mining bill published

JOHANNESBURG - The government on Monday published a draft Bill that will force mining companies to transfer majority stake to indigenous Zimbabweans.

According to the Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill, the government will get a free 25 percent stake in all foreign-owned mining firms.

The new Bill is expected to be presented and approved by Parliament, where Mugabe’s ruling party enjoys a majority, before the end of the year. The latest move comes hardly two months after Harare passed another controversial law giving indigenous Zimbabweans majority stake in foreign-owned companies. –
