Women’s issue stirs further violence

HARARE - An MDC (Tsvangirai) activist was left for dead during intra-party clashes in Glen View on Sunday as the tension caused by the Women's Assembly leadership issue continues.

Denford Ngadziore was hospitalized after he was allegedly attacked by youths aligned to party president Morgan Tsvangirai and recently-elected Women’s Assembly chair, Theresa Makone. Ngadziore is aligned to ousted leader, Lucia Matibenga, and was also beaten up three weeks ago at the party headquarters.

“He was attacked by youths aligned to Makone, who alleged that he is campaigning for the third force they say Matibenga is working on,” said an eye-witness.  Ngadziore said he suffered “severe head injuries and a suspected broken hand” and belived his life was in danger. “There are some youths that have threatened me with death because they say I am working on the third force project,” he said.

The MDC information department has condemned the recent escalation of violence, as have many voices from civic society and media organizations. – Itai Dzamara
