The youths reportedly told the MDC supporters to leave the area as they were supporting a “puppet party that wants to reverse the gains of the liberation struggle.”
The evictions come hardly a fortnight after an MDC delegation told Home Affairs Minister Kembo Mohadi that the ruling party had stepped up a campaign of violence against opposition supporters around the country.
Among those evicted together with their families are Simbarashe Sinawacho of Mamutse Village in Bikita’s ward 12, Anna Chapu of Chunyamatura irrigation scheme, Solomon Marumura and Rangarirai Nesvinga.
The villagers said they also had their newly planted crop destroyed by the marauding youths.
“We were ordered to pack our belongings within an hour by the ZANU (PF) youths who said they had been sent by the local MP, Makova. He later openly told us we are not wanted in the area. We have since left our homes and at the moment we are surviving on charity,” said Sinawacho.
“I do not comment on issues concerning MDC supporters,” said Makova curtly, when contacted. – ZimOnline
