Zims get ‘a home away from home’ in SA

In the absence of an exclusive watering hole and eating place for the vast majority of the three million Zimbabweans that have settled in South Africa, a local Zimbabwean business is soon to launch Zim Café in the up-market Rivonia suburb on 30 November. The place seeks to bring the different groups of Zimbabweans together.

This will be the first ever Cafe to accommodate Zimbabweans and other interested groups which are struggling to find a common ground in the Diaspora. Zim Café seeks to provide ‘a home away from home’ with a synergy of food, drink and music.

‘If the Chinese could come with a Chinese Restaurant, why not us,- said one of the organizers, adding that a pre-launch of Zim Café would be held at Black Steers Rivonia on Friday 23 November.

‘We are saying to all Zimbabweans, this is your place with a unique name that you can identify with, so come and enjoy. We are however not exclusive to Zimbabweans only because we know that there are so many other people who enjoy that which is Zimbabwean. We are just offering a different experience to anyone, the tourist, the Zimbabwean, the South Africa, the African,- added the organizer.

The pre-launch will feature well-known Nigerian musician, Kora and Channel O award winner, Kunle Ayo and Zimbabwean mega star – Tendai ‘Sasa Wasasa’ Chidarikire of the Zezuru fame.

‘As you can see with our line-up we are accommodating all different African groups. Kunle has a large following locally and those who were at Oliver Mtukudzi’s show recently know that Sasa Wasasa is a force to be reckoned with.-

Kunle mixes a bit of Jazz and Afro-pop while Sasa fuses the Mbira and guitar for a unique sound only identified with him.

The biggest feature on the Zim Café calendar will be Zim Nite, to be held every end of the month. ‘Zim Nite is our biggest feature where we will be inviting Zimbabwean artists to come and perform. We will also be inviting other artists from South Africa and Africa to perform and make Zim Nite a memorable experience.

Apart from Sasa, we are already in talks with major artists from Zimbabwe to make up our festive calendar.-
Zim Café also offers exclusivity, with people being invited to join the Zim Café club where members will enjoy discounts for show tickets, food and beverages. Members will also be invited to exclusive events like Xmas parties, forums, business meetings etc.

Members of the public are invited to apply for exclusive membership by writing to zimcafe@zimgreats.com. Please include your home number, mobile and e-mail address to qualify for free membership.
