Murape lands biggest individual prize

BULAWAYO - Dynamos' midfield kingpin, Murape Murape and their head coach, David Mandigora, capped a fine recovery year for the "Glamour Boys" on Friday, when they were voted 2007 soccer star and coach of the year, respectively.

Dembare skipper, Justice Majabvi, also weighed in with another award, when he was voted third best in the soccer star of the year awards, after striker Obadiah Tarumbwa of bitter rivals Highlanders, was voted second to Murape.
Murape, whose love-hate relationship with the club saw him abandon it twice in the past four years, and earned him a suspension this past season, due to a combination of factors like indiscipline and protest over unpaid salaries, was one of the key players behind Dynamos’ return to the podium to pick up the league championship trophy, after a 10-year sabbatical.
The pint-sized attacking midfielder weighed in with very crucial goals during the season, including the winner against bitter rivals Highlanders in the CBZ Cup final at Barbourfields Stadium.
Murape received a Z$1 billion cheque and a refrigerator valued at Z$900 million for his achievement.
Highlanders striker while Tarumbwa received a Z$950 million cheque and a refrigerator valued at Z$600 000.
Majabvi got a Z$750 million and a microwave oven valued at Z$600 million.
Kenny Marange, Nelson Kusosa and Thabani Mnkantsho were voted referee of the year, second and third runner-up in that order, getting Z$250 million, while Chapungu’s Cuthbert Malajila received Z$500 million for being top goalscorer, while other soccer star of the year finalists received Z$300 million each.
