Musina: The Musina businesspersons have hinted that if Zimbabwean economy was to normalize soon their ventures would dwindle in a matter of few months as their viability had depended much from Zimbabwean traders and also farm workers.

A factory shop owner Abdul Razak Yusuf Omar speaking exclusively to the Zimbabwean said, South Africa businesses were rejoicing as the current crisis had made them over night millionaires.

Anyone who is likely to start his businesses this time has a chance of survival as more and more Zimbabweans are coming here to buy these basic commodities which in the past few days have even made us fail to stock enough commodities for our customers, said Omar.

Thousands of Zimbabweans have already started flocking to buy their Christmas groceries at the Musina border district .According to the statistics at the South African border about 15 000 visas for civil servants had already been issued as of 1st of this month.

A research done by this reporter has revealed that most of these people who come to buy groceries ranges from teachers, soldiers, nurses and also politician as the Zimbabwean market was quickly running out of stock.

Economist argue that the number of Zimbabweans flocking into South Africa just to buy basic commodities had increased with alarming levels as of June this year when the Robert Mugabe regime introduced the price slash.

The Zimbabwe government’s price slash left only a third of the foodstuffs industries operating as more pulled out after seeing that the government was not considering the entire production costs they were experiencing.

However the move which worked to a disadvantage for Zimbabwe businesses has turned to be an advantage to their South African counterparts of which some already boasts of having made a fortune in a short period.

I have made profits in these past three months I could not make in a period of two years if I am to compare. My markets are always flooded with Zimbabweans who come here to buy foodstuffs and at some points I have even failed to supply required quantities, said Bert Marius a supermarket owner.
