Nothing to celebrate – Mabhena

BULAWAYO - Former Zanu (PF) governor and a former Zipra commander have said there is nothing to celebrate on Unity Day as Zimbabweans are still suffering.

President Robert Mugabe and the late Vice President Joshua Nkomo signed a Unity Accord between Zanu (PF) and PF Zapu in 1987. December 22 was set as the date to celebrate the signing of the Accord and the government has lined up events around the country.

But speaking to The Zimbabwean former Zanu (PF) governor for Matabeleland North who was also a PF Zapu top officials, Welshman Mabhena and former Zipra commander, Ackim Ndlovu, said there was nothing to celebrate.

Mabhena, who was expelled from the ruling party years back for telling Mugabe that he was neglecting people of Matabeleland, said the present government had turned Zimbabweans into destitutes.

“Right now, as we speak there is no cash available in banks. How can people be expected to celebrate?” he said.

Ndlovu said Zimbabweans should not be fooled by the Mugabe regime into celebrating poverty. “Mugabe has totally failed to run this country and he wants to blame his failure on the west,” he said. – Pindai Dube
