NUST suspends Bere

BULAWAYO - The National University of Science and Technology has suspended former students union president, Clever Bere for four semesters.

This follows a spate of demonstrations that rocked the institution in May this year. Bere is accused of inciting and leading fellow students to participate in the demonstrations.

The firebrand student leader and a fierce critic of Mugabe’s misrule is the latest victim of the state’s attack on student leaders. The suspension comes barely two months after the student leader was forced into hiding after he signed a petition to Mugabe on behalf on the students.

The veteran student leader has vowed to fight the suspension legally and politically. Lawyers Kucaca Phulu and Nqobile Ndlovu from Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights have already started working on the case.

Zinasu has urged students to remain steadfast and committed to the fight for betterment of our education delivery system and availability of it to all without discrimination. – Staff reporter
