Tsvangirai assesses water situation in Matabeleland

svangirai assesses water situation in Matabeleland

President Morgan Tsvangirai this morning began a tour of Bulawayo in particular and Matabeleland in general to assess for himself the dire water situation which has seriously affected residents in that region.

The President will visit dams, water projects and plants, speak to residents and the mayor of Bulawayo to see how the people are struggling to survive following a perennial water problem in Matabeleland which has been ignored over the years by the regime.

The chronic water shortage has been worsened by the government’s ill-advised plan to hand over all water issues to the ill-equipped and poorly-run Zimbabwe National Water Authority.

The MDC President will tomorrow address a rally at Nesikwe Business Centre in Nkayi. He will also conduct listening tours in Matabeleland North. Listening tours are designed to give the people the opportunity to outline issues affecting them and their prescribed solutions.

The rally kicks off at 11am and President Tsvangirai is expected to address the issues of starvation, the general decline of people’s living conditions, the election and the SADC-initiated dialogue.

The department will keep you furnished with details and pictures on the President’s visit to Matabeleland.
