Zimbabwe announces cricket squad to face SA

HARARE:
THE Zimbabwe Cricket has announced a 13-member squad for the upcoming SuperSport Challenge against a
South African Composite X1, which begins at Boland Park, Paarl, on Thursday.


The squad leaves for South Africa on Wednesday morning  with three changes to the side that claimed a
10-wicket win against the same opposition in Potchefstroom  last month.Eighteen-year-old Timycen Maruma has been dropped for another spinner Sean Williams, while off-spinner
Raymond Price makes the travelling party after both had missed the first match, for different reasons. Williams could not travel to South Africa last month because of injury, while Price, who had just returned to the Zimbabwe fold from a self-imposed, two-and-a-half-year exile, could not get a visa on time. Christopher Mpofu- the medium-pace-bowler- is also travelling with the team, after missing the first trip due to injury. Zimbabwe team-manager Givemore Makoni confirmed the squad on Tuesday, adding they would be returning home
on 24 December.Zimbabwe are taking part in the SuperSport Challenge – which includes three matches of four days each-in
preparation for an anticipated return to Test cricket, next year.  
 Cricket South Africa, as part of the International Cricket Council’s efforts to help struggling Zimbabwe gain experienced, offered to include the local team in their First-class competitions for the 2007/8 season.
