Ahern condemns ‘man-made crisis’

CAPE TOWN - Visiting Irish Prime Minister, Bertie Ahern, condemned in strongest terms the socio-economic and political crisis in Zimbabwe, which he believes is a man-made crisis.

He held talks with South African Deputy President, Phumzile Mlambo Ngcuka, and expressed grave concern over Zimbabwe’s political and economic crisis, arguing that only the talks being presided over by president Thabo Mbeki could bring in the desired results provided both parties involved respected the outcome.

Ahern is in South Africa with a delegation of 50 companies from his country. “Ireland has over 3,000 citizens residing in Zimbabwe and this issue has been of grave concern to the rest of Africa, European Union (EU) and the entire world that upholds the rule of law and human rights principles,” he said. – Own correspondent
