The newly elected African National Congress (ANC) President, Jacob Zuma, told a huge gathering of about 30 000 ruling party supporters at Super Stadium in the capital on Saturday (today) during the party’s 96th Anniversary that the willing-buyer, willing-seller concept should be quickly revisted with a view to review the whole concept. “People living in rural areas, particularly those in the former bantustans, daily face the harshest conditions of poverty, food insecurity, and lack of access to services. e need to advance the agrarian revolution we spoke of at conference. “We must accelerate the process of land redistribution, and ensure that the necessary support is provided to beneficiaries of the land reform process. We should make progress in the implementation of the outcomes of the National Land Summit and our conference resolutions with respect to foreign ownership of land, allocation of customary land, and the review of willing-buyer, willing seller approach,” said Zuma. Zuma could not elaborate whether his ANC government would go the Zimbabwean style of land seizures or else come up with some international standards in the whole land reform programmes.During the ANC 52nd Conference, that ushered him the presidency, Zuma promised the South African nation that his ruling party intends to take 30 percent of the country’s prime lands and resettle majority of the landless in South Africa- CAJ News.
