Tourism sector plans for 2010

PLAYERS in the tours and hospitality industry met last week met to discuss critical issues to be addressed if the country is to benefit from the soccer showcase to be hosted by South Africa.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, Givemore Chidzidzi, said there was need for a fund to enable tour operators to buy a new fleet of luxurious cars and called for exemptions in the payment of duty for goods and services essential for the tourism sector.

Major issues under the spotlight included ageing fleets, water and electricity supply and quality of services offered by hotels.

The tourism sector has the potential to transform the country’s economy if comprehensive tourism packages are formulated as well as sticking to the international standards especially with regards to service delivery.
