The project, “Connecting classrooms and Africa, dreams and teams”, links schools to promote intercultural dialogue, increasing knowledge and understanding of societies. It is powered by ICT and other forms of communication.
The benefits to students include challenging opportunities for personal development and greater international understanding, recognition as trained young leaders and enhancement of leadership skills, citizenship values and self-esteem.
Other initiatives include bilateral links, connecting through sport, developing youth leadership, promoting cultural exchange and dialogue, developing citizenship values in young people, training tutors mainly teachers as trainers, training young people, planning sports festivals or other cultural events and exchanges including curriculum enhancement through joint curriculum projects.
Exchanges will involve two-way visits for teachers and students. Communication will be facilitated through the use of the internet, emails, online communities, post including sending photos and CDs, video conferencing and mobile phones.
The target audience is Zimbabwean students between the age of 4 and 19 from primary and secondary schools, as well as teachers, parents, the community at large and curriculum bodies.
