We must participate – Zims in Jozi

OVER 500 delegates consisting of legal experts, opposition parties, churches and members of the Zimbabwean public in the Diaspora have rejected a so-called transitional constitution that Zanu (PF) and opposition parties appear to have agreed to ahead of the March poll.

During a meeting held in Johannesburg on Saturday, delegates dismissed the constitutional blueprint, saying the fact that it was drafted without the input of citizens and civic society organisations and other stakeholders rendered it null and void and not worthy of being called a constitution at all.

“What happened to participatory democracy that allows for the citizenry to actively participate in the drafting of a constitution?” queried Zimbabwean-born lawyer, Anna Moyo.

“As far as I know the concerns and input of millions of Zimbabweans in the diaspora were not considered.”

“I do not believe the concerns of Zimbabweans in the diaspora are incepted into that preliminary constitution, “complained social and economic analyst, Luke Zunga.

Political commentator Emmanuel Hlabangana concurred calling for a coordinated movement that will call for the postponement of elections in March because of little time between now and March to draft and adopt a new constitution. – CAJ News
