ZIFA boss Rushwaya further remanded

HARARE, (Zimbabwe): The Zimbabwe Football Association chief executive officer Henrietta Rushwaya- who is facing charges of defrauding the soccer mother-body, has been further remanded to 9 January 2008.

Rushwaya appeared before senior magistrate Mr. Lazarus Murendo, on Thursday, but was remanded to next month after the investigating failed to make it to the court, for the second day, running. The case had been scheduled to be heard in the same court on Wednesday, but was further remanded to Thursday after the investigating had failed to make an appearance. But Mr. Murendo was left with no choice but to further remand the hard-talking Zifa boss, to next month. Rushwaya was arrested on November 9 and appeared before provincial magistrate Mr Mishrod Guvamombe, the same day. Mr Guvamombe remanded Rushwaya to November 23 on $10 million bail, and ordered her to surrender her passport, in addition to reporting at Harare Central Police Station once-a-week, as part of her bail conditions. But Rushwaya had appealed to the court a day before her court appearance, asking for a postponement and, the release of her passport- as she was scheduled to leave for South Africa on 23 November, to attend the 2010 World Cup draw, in Durban. Mr Bhila then remanded her to December 7, but the case was, again, further remanded to February 8, next year. But on Monday, she was summoned to court, appearing before Mr Murendo, on Wednesday. The State is accusing Rushwaya of defrauding Zifa of US$2400, by underpaying officials who were going on soccer business, and pocketing the balance, of the money she would have requested from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe-CAJ News.
