The Laureus award comes barely four months the Springboks clinched the World Rugby champions in France. As that was not enough, former South African President, Nelson Mandela, was nominated the patron of the Laureus World Sports Awards, where Africa stood their ground.Apart from the group awards, Swiss tennis star player, Roger Federer made history by becoming the first ever winner of four Laureus World Sports Awards when he scooped the best on Monday. Federer was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, for the fourth straight time, at the 2008 Awards Ceremony in St.Petersburg, Russia. But it was the team award that silenced the world when the Springboks of South Africa beat the world hands down to emerge victorious.Notable names that made impact include British Formula One Lewis Hamilton, who won the Breakthrough Awards whilst Henin became the sportswoman of the year
