Both the Christian Alliance and the Save Zimbabwe Campaign, a network of civil society, church and political parties have issued statements urging ZEC to announce the results of the elections as a matter of urgency.
The Christian Alliance said in order to avoid any further distress and to calm all citizens, ZEC and other relevant authorities should immediately release the results that are now available.
“Any further delay could lead to unpredictable and undesirable behaviour by citizens as they continue to rely on unofficial results.
“Continued silence is tantamount to tacit endorsement of such unofficial results,” states the Christian Alliance in a statement read by former Bishop of the Methodist Levy Kadenge.
The Save Zimbabwe campaign also in the same vain said given the historic nature of the elections, there was no need for the ZEC to keep the people of Zimbabwe in suspense.
“The failure by ZEC to announce the results gives reasons to Zimbabweans to suspect that the electoral process is being manipulated by the incumbent and Zanu PF. The people of Zimbabwe have the right to the results immediately,” stated the Save Zimbabwe Campaign.
ZEC chairperson had to be protected by alert security officer at Harare hotel in morning after being confronted by impatient journalists and supporters of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change.
The MDC has already claimed that it has won the elections and would not allow the Zanu PF regime to steal the election. Party Secretary General Tendai Biti said they were not going to the court route to seek recourse but would stand guided by the people of Zimabwe
