It must be election time

President Mugabe has been dishing out computers to various rural schools again- it must be election time! The fact that most rural schools do not have electricity, and the few that do have it are forever having blackouts, thanks to the years of neglect, poor maintenance and corruption at ZESA, does not seem to have been factored into th

Maybe the President doesn’t even know about the power outages. He certainly doesn’t know about the shortages that most Zimbabweans have endured for the past 8 years.

Speaking at a rally in Mahusekwa last week, he told his rent-a-crowd that food shortages are looming. As a result, he said he had set up an emergency committee to expedite food distribution. This should have been done eight years ago.

Since that committee was appointed how many tons of food have they expedited? Is this another hare-brained scheme like the still-born Zanu shops to sell goods below their production costs, which were announced with much fanfare some weeks ago and hailed as an election-winner by those poor, misguided souls still campaigning for Mugabe- such as Obert Mpofu, the inaptly named minister of trade and commerce.

The maize is there (in Zambia and Malawi ), Mugabe told the crowd. What he omitted to mention to his hungry listeners was how it got there and why it is not available here.

Might it have something to do with the daylight robbery of land and equipment by his cronies under the guise of agrarian reform? The truth of the matter is that so-called land reform, carried out Mugabe-style, and has been an unmitigated disaster for our country.

This is why he is now surrounded by people clamouring for him to go. It has nothing to do with the British wanting to re-colonise an impoverished country where nothing works anymore.

There is a leadership deficit within Zanu (PF) and within our country. It is not the business community or the British who are making life difficult for Zimbabweans.

Mugabe has blamed the price increases on profiteering by business people as a way of making life difficult for Zimbabweans.

Some are doing it for the elections. They are saying lets make life hard for the people so that they cry and blame it all on Mugabe’s government, he said.

No, no, no . The man is wrong yet again.

It is he who has made life impossible in Zimbabwe. He is the one who has made us suffer- by his corrupt patronage system, mis-governance, human rights abuses and stupid economic policies.

So instead of buying computers and dishing them out to people without electricity, the money should be invested wisely and used to buy food, fuel and medicines. That at least would be a step in the right direction.
But the only real solution is to get rid of the cause of our misery – and that is Mugabe.

Word for Today

After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.
