In an exclusive interview with CAJ News Agency late Saturday afternoon, Itai Marombedza of the opposition MDC Morgan Tsvangirai formation’s National elections directorate said he had been informed ballot papers for the presidential candidates had been finished by midday in Mutare North and Makoni South.
“I have received reports that presidential ballot papers have run out at a polling station in Mt Dzuma and in Wards 29 and 30 of Makoni South, said Marombedza.
Moffat Masabeya, the provincial elections officer was not immediately available for a comment.
Marombedza said while the election had generally remained peaceful, he had been informed a house belonging to a party supporter hamufari Muchisi, in ward 18, Mudzimundiringe village, Mutare West, about 70km west of Mutare was torched last night by suspected Zanu PF activists.
“We have since made a report to the police in Bambazonke, but there has not been any arrests,” he said.
He said Muchisi lost everything in the inferno and was currently housed at arelative’s homestead
