A musical match made in heaven

Selmor Mutukudzi and Tendai Manatsa – both launching albums on April 25.

Andy Brown and Chiwoniso Maraire; Rocqui and Pauline. And now? Selmor Mutukudzi and Tendai Manatsa.
The first two pairs produced fine music together and separated. The third? Well, they are still married and perhaps the oddest thing about this musical team is that they have so much in common.
They are both musicians. And both their fathers were musicians of note, with impressive track records. Tendai’s father is Zexie Manatsa and Selmor’s is music legend Oliver Mutukudzi.
They are both launching their respective debut album on April 25. And they have curiously named their albums Kudzoka kwababa and Shungu respectively.
Selmor’s album contains out-of-nowhere smash hits such as Chiro, kugeza, Mateo, mhembwe rudzi, chiuya, iwewe neni – a duet with hubby – and Pane katsanga, originally by mudhara Tuku.
The response from fans has been tremendous, Tendai said. I hope our albums will do very well. Our fans have to prepare for more albums to come.
