Chigwedere, who was Minister of Education in Mugabe’s cabinet, has already been installed as Headman Mubayiwa in his rural Marondera, serving under Chief Svoswe.
A traditional installation ceremony presided over by Chief Svoswe was conducted at his homestead on Sunday.
Chigwedere, a historian and educationalist said he had permanently abandoned politics as a profitable option. He said the decision to settle down to the position of headman came at the insistence of his family and his conscience.
