They cannot make you vote for them

In their desperation to cling to power and retain their lavish lifestyles, members of Mugabe's military junta have devised deceitful ways to frame MDC officials and Members of Parliament so that they can be rendered ineffective ahead of the proposed run-off of the presidential poll.

Some of the devious methods devised include planting weapons at the homes of MDC officials and claims of planned insurrection by the opposition in cahoots with the British and government.

This strategy is designed to cripple the MDC severely, while its supporters in rural areas are subjected to indescribable suffering and torture to cow them into voting for the defeated candidate in the last presidential poll – Robert Mugabe.

Already Patrick Chinamasa is concocting treason allegations against Morgan Tsvangirai in a desperate attempt to distract the MDC leader’s attention from the nation’s crisis.

Zanu (PF)’s actions constitute a pathetically transparent attempt to justify arming the youth militia and party supporters. A consignment of arms obviously meant for this purpose has just been intercepted in Durban harbour aboard a Chinese ship. We hope the South Africans will do the right thing, for once, and not allow this consignment through to be used against the people of Zimbabwe by the military junta.

We urge peace-loving Zimbabweans to remain calm at all costs. Despite the unspeakable acts of barbarity being perpetrated throughout the country by the state and its depraved military and militia thugs, our most powerful weapon is to remain peaceful at all costs.

Any other action will give the military junta the excuse it is wanting – to declare a state of emergency. We must be steadfast in refusing to be provoked.

Remember, brave Zimbabweans, they may break your bones – but they can never break your spirit. They can force you to attend their rallies, and to shout empty slogans. They can even force you to vote again in their illegal presidential run-off.  But your vote is your voice and they CANNOT make you vote for them.

The people of Zimbabwe have already decided that the megalomaniac Mugabe and his corrupt regime must be consigned to the dustbin of history.

Post script:

We speak here for millions of Zimbabweans in calling on the International Committee of the Red Cross to get involved in this humanitarian crisis which has seen hundreds beaten, tortured, raped, stoned and murdered in the past few weeks.

Word for today

I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned.  Keep away from them.  For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites.  By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good and innocent about what is evil.  The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.  The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. – Romans 16:17-20
