Four Great Zimbabwe University Students further remanded

Four Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) students briefly appeared in Masvingo magistrate court yesterday for routine remand hearing .

Brenda Mupfurutsa, Joel Bingudza, Ogylive Makova and George Makamure were further remanded to May 14.The four are being charged with contempt of court after they staged a demonstration at Masvingo Magistrate court on 17 October 2007. The demonstration was part of the Save Edison campaign a solidarity campaign launched by the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) against the incarceration of Edison Hlatshwayo (the then secretary  general of Great Zimbabwe University) at Mutimurefu prison. The court has failed to provide a trial date for the case and currently the university is closed. This means that the students had to travel from their different homes to attend court.
