Sitiya and others win in their application of refusal for further remand. State to proceed by way of summons. Shadreck further remanded out of custody to the 19 of March.

The defense lawyer for the 6 UZ students who had been appearing in court since July last year successfully applied for a refusal of further remand. The 6 had been facing charges of malicious destruction of property and state had failed to summon witnesses to the case therefore prejudicing the 6 student activists. The magistrate ruled in favor of the application by the defense lawyer and the state had no ground to object to the ruling and this signals the end of the case for the 6 student activists. On the same day Shadreck Vengesai who is also facing the same charges as the 6 had his case further remanded to the 19th of March.

Masvingo magistrates’ court nullifies the suspension of 10 student activists from Great Zimbabwe University.

The nullification comes after it had been discovered that the Ordinance that was used by the college authorities to suspend indefinitely the 10 students was no longer in use after the University changed to Great Zimbabwe University from Masvingo State University. Therefore the suspension is unlawful as it made at a time when the Great Zimbabwe University had no Ordinance. The Magistrate has ordered the College authorities to re-instate the suspended students as the suspension is null and void.
