World must help, NOW!

Having won the recent combined elections, the MDC now needs to start setting up its own parallel structures to those of Zanu (PF).

For example, thousands of people have been injured and displaced during the current reign of terror and are in desperate need of  shelter, medicines and food. The MDC has to step into this breach- and they must ask the international community to support them.

Words must now be translated into action – into tents, blankets, medicines and food.A way must be found to assist those suffering so terribly at the merciless hands of the tyrant Robert Mugabe and his barbaric military junta.

Statements of condemnation of Mugabe and calls for the release of the  poll results are simply not enough  any more. What si needed is practical assistance for those in need.

Where there is a will there is a way – the MDC and the international community must leave no stone unturned to circumvent the military junta structures and find a way to get help to the suffering people of  Zimbabwe- whose democratic right to choose their leader is being denied in such a brutal manner.

On behalf of the people of Zimbabwe, we hereby appeal to the international community not to wait until this whole crisis gets out of hand- as they did in Rwanda and Kenya. They must act now. China is trying to send in arms. Democratic and humane forces around the world must send in humanitarian assistance. Now!

No more dictators in Africa

We applaud the South African labour body, COSATU, for planning to stage weekly demonstrations against Mugabe’s military junta.

COSATU has acquitted itself admirably during this Zimbabwe’s darkest hour, and proved itself a true friend to the people who have suffered under one of the most repressive regimes in the world.

It seems,at last, that the people of South Africa have seen through Mugabe’s smokescreen about Britain trying to re-colonise Zimbabwe. It is -as it has always been-the people of Zimbabwe demanding a change in the way their country is run.

The fact of the matter is that Mugabe has run Zimbabwe for the benefit only of his family and his dwindling entourage of greedy fatcats. He is now a liability. The people gave shown him the door- but he has refused to accept their will.He is staying in power only through the barrels of Chinese gun-holding the people (and indeed the region) to ransom.
We need the rest of SADC and Africa  to follow COSATU’s lead in sending a clear message that what Mugabe is doing in Zimbabwe is unacceptable. Africa has had enough of dictators.

Word for Today

This is what the Lord says: Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this : that he understands and knows me, that I AM the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight, declares the Lord.
