AU urges transparent run-off

THE African Union (AU) on today (Wednesday) urged all Zimbabwean parties to hold a free, transparent and non-violent presidential run-off.

‘In the run-up to the second round of the presidential poll, the AU re-emphasises the need for Zimbabwe to implement the conditions set out in the Declaration on the Principles Governing Democratic Elections in Africa,’ said a statement received by Agence France-Presse in Addis Ababa, where the AU is bases.

The pan-African body urged ‘all the Zimbabwe political actors to conduct their activities in a free, transparent, tolerant and non-violent manner to enable eligible Zimbabweans exercise their democratic rights’.
