City council, parastatals remove Mugabe portrait

The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) and several private and parastatal companies in Bulawayo have started removing the portrait of Robert Mugabe, head of the military junta, from their offices, saying he is no longer the president.


Mugabe lost the presidential elections to MDC’s Morgan Tsvangirai.Several company executives who spoke to The Zimbabwe on Sunday last confirmed that have stopped displaying Mugabe their offices.
We see no reason why we should continue display him since he is no longer the president of Zimbabwe, said a company boss who spoke on condition of anonymity.A visit to the city council offices located at the large city hall proved that the city fathers have stopped displaying Mugabe. No comment could be obtained from Pathisa Nyathi, the BCC spokesperson.  Parastatals who have also stopped displaying Mugabe’s portrait include the Cold Storage Company.
