Wanjigi, a corporate coach at Wits University in South Africa, and countryman Paul Mungai, joined forces to release the CD last week and it is selling like hot cakes in Johannesburg.
Prayer for Zimbabwe is on sale throughout South Africa’s major cities, to motivate Zimbabweans to unite against Robert Mugabe’s leadership that has brought the economy to its knees.
Wanjigi, who is the Grace Family Church honorary pastor and counsellor, says he wrote the song because God gave him a vision to tell people of Zimbabwe never to exchange their freedom for anything, even if it meant losing their lives.
I was inspired to write this song after realising the situation there – innocent men, women and children of Zimbabwe being tortured, their rights being blatantly flaunted as the world watches and does nothing, says Wanjigi.
The just concluded Kenyan elections are still fresh in my mind, where hundreds, if not thousands, of people died. I felt the urge to give the voiceless people of Zimbabwe a voice.
The message I am sending to the world is that we need to rise and chastise this demonic-influenced regime in the strongest means possible. Mugabe and his henchmen need to realise that the Zimbabwean people are fed up with his bankrupt politics, he added.
Wanjigi, who is married to Mary and has two children, said the Kenyan style of liberating themselves would not apply in Zimbabwe, but urged the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), Christians and civil society to bury their differences and face the common enemy – Zanu (PF) and Mugabe’s military chiefs.
He said a modern and bloodless strategy for removing the regime was at hand, arguing that the suffering of millions of Zimbabweans was coming to an end.
I strongly believe that with faith in the Almighty God and perseverance, joy comes in the morning. The people of Zimbabwe will be free one day.
What makes me more angry is South African President Thabo Mbeki, who has grossly misrepresented the concerns of the people of Zimbabwe with his reckless statements, said the 34-year-old.
Wangiji said he was planning to release another 11-track gospel album, through which he would be praying for an end to hunger, diseases, endless civil wars, marriage breakdowns as well as the rampant HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa. Â
Our leaders need to learn to respect the will of the people. It is biblical to step down and hand over the mantle to young blood and in this way we will avoid the dictatorship and turmoil that ravage our beloved continent. – CAJ News
