MDC victory celebration

MDC supporters - "Red card for Mugabe"

Bulawayo:At one days notice MDC attracted 20 000 people to its rally at White City
Stadium on Sunday the 18th May.

The crowd was peaceful and good natured and
was given a meal afterwards as part of the celebration of the MDC victory in
the election on the 29th March.
Several members of the national leadership spoke and said that the President
had not been able to attend as he was outside the country on urgent
diplomatic work. The leadership said that Zanu was dead and that the run off
on the 27th June was simply a burial service to which all Zimbabweans were
invited.
A small 5 man team from the uniformed police were present maintaining a road
block on the road to the stadium – no riot police were in evidence. No
police presence was needed and Nelson Chamisa thanked the police for helping
with security.
More violence and intimidation was again reported today – yesterday there
was an interesting development in Lupane – the capital of Matabeleland North
Province where people burned their Zanu PF cards in public in response to
the violence in the Lupane District. The crowd stood for a minutes silence
to mourn those killed in recent violence.
