Mhlanga-Ngema project hits a snag

The highly publicised project that sought to bring together Zimbabwean theatre producer Cont Mhlanga of Amakhosi Arts and South African Mbongeni Ngema has become mired in political stalemate.

The project, Mzilikazi the Musical, was meant to be a film chronicling the Ndebele King Mzilikazi’s departure from Zululand to Matabeleland, and was to be shot in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Everything is at a stand still at the moment. We had planned on showcasing the play in 2010, taking advantage of the World Cup. Unfortunately, in Zimbabwe the government failed to give our project national recognition. If we had been given a national platform, it would have been easier for us to get sponsorship, said Mhlanga.
