Mugabe being treated for cancer?

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is fighting for his political career, but he might be in an even tougher battle against cancer, according to a report in the Sunday Times, reports Beeld, Johannesburg.

One of Mugabe’s inner-circle said he had flown to Singapore on Wednesday to undergo tests for prostate cancer. He was to return on Sunday.

The kind of medical treatment needed by 84-year-old Mugabe apparently was no longer available in Zimbabwe’s increasingly rundown hospitals.

Mugabe lost the first round of the presidential election against MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai and was preparing for the next election.

The fact that he was prepared to fly to the East so close to the election was considered to be an indication that his health was deteriorating significantly and needed urgent attention.

According to the Sunday Times sources, the tests were carried out by one of Malaysia’s top urologists.

With more and more doors slamming against Mugabe in the West he has turned increasingly to the East.

He and his wife, Grace, who is much younger than he is, apparently often travel to the East.
