Pfebve family abducted

MOUNT DARWIN - Zanu (PF) thugs descended on Nyakatondo village in MT Darwin on Tuesday evening and rounded the entire village. The area is a strong support base to MDC and home to Pfebve family which has been influential in the opposition politics ever since MDC formation.

Information received by an eye witness who managed to escape indicates that 2 people were murdered and scores of property were burnt to the ground as a government sponsored militia takes retribution to new height. At about 8 PM and abducted my parents, tied their hands with ropes and flog marched them to a torture camp at Nyakatondo Primary School.

Fireson Pfebve (brother) who escaped to contact me on Wednesday managed to reach Harare talked of a desperate situation on the ground as scores of people were rounded up and beaten, the fate of those captured could not be ascertain at the time of writing this article.  My parents an elderly couple in their late 70s are being accused by Zanu (PF) of having natured opposition members to government of Robert Mugabe in a country purportedly to be democratic. As I speak their fate is not known and so is the fate of other family members reported missing in action.

My fear is the trauma that these law abiding elders of society are going through for having voted for a government of their choice. They have done nothing wrong, Mugabe set the election date, printed the ballot papers albeit with opposition leaders printed on them, Mugabe did employee the polling officers and did the counting. Why then should my parents and family members be punished? Communication to this area has been difficult as Zanu (PF) has cut off all forms of communication. Road blocks have been set up to prevent opposition members or aid workers reaching them. Live stocks belonging to opposition members have been confiscated and are being slaughtered to provide food for Mugabe militia. Many more people said to have been injured and there are reports of targeted rape against members of the opposition.
Less than 90 days to a forced run-off, this incident is not new, official figure put the dead to 38 since 2 May but this number is a grossly underestimate as many remain un accounted for.

In rural remote, where communication is poor, those will take time to be known. There are reports of Zanu (PF) burying the murdered in shallow graves to cover up their heinous crimes. The wave of violence has spread to all 8 provinces and this proves that the government is fully behind the logistics of it, no one criminal gang can replicate its self covering such a wider area operating with impunity without government support and logistics.  Many people in Zimbabwe rural today have fled their properties and are living in mountains in a country not at war other than at war with its own government. Politicians talk of a run-off, we must be joking really!

Surely this is not consistent with a government willing to accept defeat in the event that MDC wins the run-off. I think as a nation we have to accept that no matter how we vote Mugabe has no intention to concede defeat. What then is left for us young generation if an 84 year old decides to drive us into extinction by a calculated genocide? I hate wars but how do we deny it when Mugabe has already declared war on his own people?  For how long are we going to remain victims of our own government, the very one which is suppose to protect us?
