About 100 so-called war veterans on Wednesday afternoon invaded Monroe farm in Nyamandlovu and later shot at the owner, Wayne Monroe, but missed him by a few inches.
Speaking to The Zimbabwean on Sunday from a safe destination in Bulawayo, Monroe confirmed that ex-combatants in the area had forced him off his farm after threatening to kill him.
Monroe said he reported the matter to the police, who refused to investigate the death threats and his farm take-over, after citing political reasons.
The war veterans, about 100, came to my farm singing liberation songs and passing racist comments at me. They ordered me out of the farm house, which they threatened to burn down if I didn’t come out.
While I was coming out, a shot was fired at me but missed me by a few inches. No more shots were fired. I was led to my car and told to drive off and not come back, said Monroe.
I reported the matter to Nymandlovu police, who refused to help, saying their hands were tied as it was a political matter, added Monroe. He has approached the High Court seeking an order to get the squatters off his farm. Â Â Â
Efforts to get a comment from Wayne Bvudzijena, the police commissioner were futile.
