Student leaders abducted

The Zimbabwe National Student Union (ZINASU) Secretary for Information and
Publicity, Blessing Vava who was abducted by pro- ZANU PF militias is still
missing.

He was last seen on Wednesday afternoon when he addressed students

at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT).Lawyers from ZLHR failed to

locate him yesterday. Abductions and killings by ZANU PF militias and war

veterans has characterized the post election period.  

Meanwhile three female students are currently in police custody at Chinhoyi

central police station. Faith Mutepfa and Privilege Matizanadzo were picked

up by members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on Wednesday afternoon

when students protested on campus. The demonstration organized by ZINASU was

demanding among other things a halt to the violence that has rocked the

country after the March 29 harmonized election. Lothando Sibanda, a student

leader at the University was also picked on campus yesterday in connection

with the Wednesday protest. Armed riot police   had to use force to arrest

her from her accommodation room. Many students are leaving in fear as there

is a heavy police presence on campus. The three are expected to in appear in

court today.

The post election violence being orchestrated by the army, the police ,ZANU

PF militia and war veterans of the liberation struggle is aimed at

inflicting fear in Zimbabweans  for supporting the opposition which beat the

ZANU PF party and its president Robert Mugabe in the last election.

Meanwhile Zimbabwe National Students Union Secretary for Legal and academic

affairs Courage Ngwarai was arrested at Great Zimbabwe University (GZU)

yesterday. This follows an attempt by the university authorities to evict

him from college accommodation. Students rejected this move which forced the

college authorities to invite the police. Great Zimbabwe University is

currently operating without an ordinance thus why they seek the services of

the Zimbabwe Republic Police when there are students’ disturbances at

campus. Currently Ngwarai is detained at Masvingo central police station.
