Tsvangirai arrives tomorrow

by Nelson Chamisa
President Morgan Tsvangirai is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe on Saturday 17 May 2008.

The president had been for the past month based in Botswana and South Africa for a diplomatic offensive that saw him meeting several heads of state and government following his victorious win and of the MDC.

Soon after landing at Harare International Airport President Tsvangirai will meet the MDC winning House of Assembly and Senatorial candidates who are having a two day caucus meeting in Harare.

On Sunday he is expected to address a New Zimbabwe Victory Tour rally at White City Stadium in Bulawayo.

The rally is meant to thank the people of Zimbabwe for overwhelmingly voting for the MDC in the 29 March 2008 elections, which saw the MDC becoming the ruling party after it garnered more seats in parliament than Zanu PF.

President Tsvangirai also defeated Robert Mugabe of Zanu PF in the presidential elections.

However, the president arrives in Zimbabwe when Zanu PF militia has unleashed an orgy of violence in the country following its defeat at the hands of the MDC.

Thousands of people have fled their homes, while hundreds are seeking medical attention after they were brutalised by the illegal Mugabe regime.  Forty MDC activists have been murdered by Zanu PF militia.
